EloĆsa Herrera leads a research team at the Neuroscience Institute in Alicante (Spain) since 2005. Using the mammalian visual system or the projections that connect the spinal cord with the brain as a model, her team has contributed to identify the molecular mechanisms underlying axonal navigation during the wiring of bilateral circuits. Current lines of research in her laboratory address some of the transcriptional, epigenetic (context-specific) and activity-dependent mechanisms that regulate axon pathfinding and circuit assembly.
